2022: a year in media
truly, truly wish I could say there's more to this post but this sad and tiny wrap-up is all I have to offer...
top 5 movies
of 2022
special mention: the batman (2022) dir. by matt reeves, bullet train (2022) dir. by david leitch, emma (2020) dir. by autumn de wilde
overall, I wouldn't say it was a bad year. I definitely watched a lot of trash but as someone who isn't really a ~movie person~ that's always pretty much a given T__T I just can't seem to choose movies properly when I do feel like watching any and the ones that always seem the most attractive always end up being the worst ones. but despite that we prevailed! and I managed to watch some really good ones.
I didn't really limit myself when it came to release year bc then I'd have exactly five movies to choose from which seemed quite unfair.. so I'm just ranking my favorite stuff that I watched for the first time! and yes they are still extremely basic faves but I guess popular media is popular for a reason.. like EEAAO couldn't not make it first it was just too good... and I really did get the hype for budapest hotel [checks watch] eight years later... as for the venom sneak well ummm
honestly the biggest thing I learnt while making this is that I'd probably benefit from making a letterboxd...
top 5 shows
of 2022
special mention: the way of the househusband (2021 -), the summer I turned pretty (2022 -), demon slayer s2 (2019 -)
[<-- guy who isn't a movie person but also not a show person] can't defend myself here either I just don't watch shit... the top 5 is basically what I loved most out of everything I watched during the year but it wasn't even a close race tbh arcane was just tew fawking good and heartstopper + sandman gave me my yearly fill of fun queer tv so really what there was there to it.. tbh extraordinary attorney woo could've been there instead of our beloved summer but I didn't actually finish it so :')
aside from that, all the shows I've been watching for years that came out with new seasons last year (i.e. stranger thigs, umbrella academy, dragon prince, the crown) were so mid it actually hurts... maybe tua was the least out of all but it still wasn't all that amazing... overall not a good show-watching year tbh T__T hopefully I can watch some better stuff this year. at least the trash tv I watched was fun?? and so was the anime!!
top 5 books
of 2022
special mention: chain of iron (2021) by cassandra clare
being 100% honest here, chain of iron could've easily been no. 1 here but I wouldn't be bale to live with myself if I actually went through with that ranking.. also, idk if I was completely myself when I read that lol.. anyway, it wasn't such a bad reading year as in everything (or mostly everything) I read by my own account I liked but most of what I read was for school so T__T out of 25 I only chose 7 books to read and the rest were for class help??
I mean, even some of what I read for school wasn't bad if the henrik ibsen sneak wasn't indication enough but it was still way, way less fulfilling than if I had been able to read more for myself, I can't even talk about fics I liked this year because I barely read any but hopefully I can remedy that this year too
aside from this there's truly nothing else to be said T__T nothing really interesting to say about my honestly disgusting youtube habits aka watching random shit at all hours of da and the music bit of this post can be found here... so with nothing else to say hopefully I can make a more respectable year-in-review next year
